Shihan Carter began and has continued her training under Shihan Katsutaka Tanaka of Tanaka's Martial Arts Academy of Anchorage, Alaska where she was born and raised.   

Graduating from Cornish College with a BFA in Theatre, Shihan Carter is also the author of ..."Within Us", "The Praying Place:Enlightenment for A Peaceful Soul",  "The Criminal Color", and "Spirit At Ease", all books of prose, poetry, and short stories.  Her play "Damn Victims" was produced and performed at Richard Hugo House Theatre to rave reviews in October 2007, and her novel "Wobniar" is due for release next year.

A few accomplishments of her 34 plus years  in martial arts are: Creator of Power Spirit/Power Mind, 4 x WKA World Karate Association Champion, National AAU Silver Medalist, 2 x Goodwill Games Silver Medalist, Creator/Producer of 5 martial arts plays & a PSA on AIDS using martial artists.  2006 Black Belt Hall of Fame
